Storyworks helps create Kiwi rock band Fungi’s debut music video.

New but old Kiwi rock band Fungi have just released their debut music video “My Friend”. Josh was the D.P. and James was 1st A.D. The video was directed by Scott Kennedy and the band had a very clear idea of what they wanted. They’d found an intriguing 1960’s Spanish short film about a businessman who becomes trapped in a sinister phone booth. We took this idea, swapped the businessman for the talented Pearly McGrath, and transplanted the scenario to modern day Invercargill…

Filming in Invercargill was a great experience, and everyone we met was enthusiastic and helpful. Even the Mayor ( New Zealand’s long serving and iconic Tim Shadbolt ) got on board and turned up for a cameo appearance!

My Friend shoot
L-R. James Holman – 1st A.D, Josh Wallace – D.P, Pearly McGrath – Actor, Mayor Tim Shadbolt – the actual Mayor of Invercargill!, Scott Kennedy – Director, Vince Bowes-Onions – S.I.T. student and able camera assistant.

And a special thanks to Southland Institute Of Technology tutor Ash Bartlett who was gaffer and all the students who also came along to help, especially Vince Bowes-Onions and Steve Woller who acted as camera assistants.

We shot predominantly with our Sony FS7, plus Panasonic GH4 on the Ronin for tracking shots. And a Canon 5D MkIII for the vehicle rig stuff.

Scott edited in Premiere Pro and Josh graded the final clip using the fantastic new DaVinci Resolve 12 beta.
